常夏のイメージがある沖縄ですが、実はちゃんと秋も冬もやってきます。沖縄では気温２０度を下回ると「本格的な冬」と言われているんです。「さむいねー、さむいねー」と言いながら上着を着込んだりしますが、足元は裸足だったりするんですよ。島が冷えてくるのは１１月頃から。秋冬は、島は厚い雲に覆われ、青空は遠い記憶の彼方へと追いやられてしまいます。「そんな少しテンションの下がった秋、冬の季節はどんな風に過ごすのですか?」と、島人に質問してみてください。きっとこんな答えが返ってくるはずです。「そーねー、次の夏のこと考えて過ごすさー。今度の夏にはあんなこともやってみよーかねー」って。夏が過ぎると、また次の夏を待ちわびる島人の暮らし。そんな暮らしの中から生まれたのが、このネクストサマーパーカーなんです。
You may have an image of Ishigaki being hot all year around, but we do have autumn and winter too. In Okinawa when the temperature drops below 20 degrees it is said that winter is here. We may dress heavily but most of us are still wearing flip flops. The island gets cooler starting in November. The thick clouds cover the sky and the memories of the blue sky are so far gone. Every year at that time, try asking the locals how they live their daily life. You probably will get a lot of answers saying that they will look forward to the coming summer. When the summer has past and the wet and cold season is in place, locals keep positive and imagine the coming summer. This is the story behind the sweater, NEXT SUMMER.
